Foshan Prepares Tallest Statue of Bruce Lee

The world's tallest bronze statue of famous martial artist Bruce Lee will be unveiled on November 9 in Foshan, Guangdong Province, according to Guangzhou Daily.

In addition to the 18-meter-tall statue that weighs three tons, a Bruce Lee memorial hall will also open that day, the newspaper said, quoting Yang Zhenfu, director of the Foshan Sports Administration.

The unveilings are part of the activities marking Foshan Martial Arts Cultural Festival, which begins on November 8.

Wing Chun martial artists will be invited from more than 20 countries and regions to compete in the 2nd International Wing Chun Challenge Cup.
Wing Chun specializes in aggressive, close-range combat.

The city of Foshan has applied to the General Administration of Sports to name Foshan as the "Birthplace of Wing Chun" and Shunde District as the "Hometown of Wing Chun," Yang was quoted as saying.

Bruce Lee was an American-born martial artist, philosopher, instructor, martial arts actor and creator of the Jeet Kune Do combat form. He made films in both Hong Kong and Hollywood. He was considered by many as the most influential martial artist of the twentieth century. Lee became an iconic figure particularly to the Chinese, as he portrayed national pride and nationalism in his films.
