About 40% of office workers, or "white collars", in Guangzhou have gotten pay adjustments due to the recent world financial crisis, according to a survey conducted by a job-hunting website. The results also show that 40% of them have postponed or even given up the idea of changing jobs.

The results of the 2-week survey targeting the city's office workers came out on Nov. 12th. In the survey involving over 6,000 participants, salary increases have been slowed down compared to early 2008, especially in the industries of manufacturing, finance, real estate and trading. However, growth rates in the hi-tech, fast consumption and medicine industries have seen an above-average rise.

Statistics from the Guangzhou Labor Service Department show that the city's unemployment rate in this 3rd quarter has been up 0.2% from the same period of last year, accounting for some 82 thousand people.

Still, 80% percent of people are confident in their careers while another 14.5% are losing hope in their jobs, most of them coming from the banking, trading, hotel and tourism industries.
