The Guangdong Museum

The Guangdong Museum

The new and highly anticipated Guangdong Museum will open on 18th May 2010, just on time for International Museum Day. Located in the south of Zhujiang New Town, the new museum resembles an antique lacquer box and is expected to soon become an important landmark for Guangzhou.

Inside, the items on display present the history and culture of the province, from the earliest settlements to modern times. Many items in the museum will be displayed in public for the very first time thanks to modern preservation techniques which shall protect these fragile and rare items from fluctuations in temperature and humidity. These include precious wood carvings, calligraphies, porcelains, and items recovered from a Qing Dynasty shipwreck.

Although the museum is free of charge, the entrance, on the first day, will be limited to 2,500. Later, it is expected to receive up to 5,000 visited per day. The museum shall open from 9am to 5pm from Tuesday to Sunday.
